Destroy Rock & Roll

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Destroy Rock & Roll Destroy Rock & Roll With influences ranging from Prince (’Guilty Of Love’) through to Daft Punk (’Ottos Journey’) and even Scissor Sisters (’Musclecar Reform Reprise’), it’s little wonder that The Face described him as ‘Scotland’s answer to Royksopp’. By refusing to adhere to any one musical style, Mylo may well become one of the most misunderstood artists of his generation, yet despite this, expect this totally absorbing debut to make its mark on the end of year ‘best of’ listings. Breastfed. 2004.
Customer Review: Pure Electro bliss
Mylo has put out one of the best electronic albums to arrive on the scene in years. Destroy Rock & Roll combines nearly every electronic sub-genre imaginable and does so flawlessly. Here’s a track-by track-review:

Rock Island

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Rock Island Rock Island Remastered edition of this 1989 album. Following the success of Crest Of A Knave, which won a Grammy in the hard-rock category, group leader Ian Anderson responded two years later with Rock Island, a record that re-imagined Jethro Tull as a modern-rock act. Features ”Another Christmas Song”, ”Rattlesnake Trail” and more.
Customer Review: a very magical cd
This is one of those cds that you have to listen to the whole thing to experience the whole vibe of the rock island cd!! If you like music you will love this! If you like Jethro Tull it is a must have!! Some cds are so good it is hard to descibe ,this is one of them!! This was put out in 1989 and the next 2 cds were very good also but this one really stands out!! The Whalers Dues is my favorite also Another Christmas Song!!
Customer Review: Rock Island rocks! - Plain and Simple
What really sold me on this album is how it holds up to the classic sound of all my favorite Jethro Tull albums before it. While the album overall is nothing less than “fantastic”, my favorite tracks are the title song “Rock Island”, “The Rattlesnake Trail”, “Ears Of Tin”, “Heavy Water” and “The Whaler’s Dues”. This CD will always be on my best Jethro Tull albums list and comes highly recommended.

The Definitive Rock Collection (2CD)

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

The Definitive Rock Collection (2CD) The Definitive Rock Collection (2CD) Definitive retrospective of glam/pop metal masters White Lion. Formed in New York City in 1983, White Lion was fronted by charismatic, pin-up handsome lead singer Mike Tramp.
Customer Review: Remastered, Absolute Rock
After many years of not listening to White Lion, this cd, bought on a whim, is what turned me into a fan all over again. I sat and listened to it, and I can only describe it as watching a string of old Mike Tyson fights (before he turned ear-biting psychotic) and watching him demolish one guy after another after another and getting better and stronger and fiercer with each punch. This cd is nothing but fifteen absolute rock-n-roll hits from the studio and another fifteen live, high-octane hard-rock epics. Each one will having you thinking it just can’t get better. And then it will. And it’s amazing how many hits these guys had. I’d forgotten half of them and started singing along in my head with every single one once I heard just the first few notes. They’re up-beat but rock solid songs that deserve a lot more attention than they get. Granted these were all MTV Top 40, high-ranking hits, but few people remember White Lion today. They were much, much more than a flash in the pan. Mike Tramp had a genius stroke for writing hits, and Vito Bratta’s guitar musicianship is unparalleled, and he’s one of the few guys who sounds just as good if not better live. In the era of Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison, Warrant, and Bon Jovi, White Lion carved out a niche all their own, part die-hard heavy metal, part pop, and 100% rock-n-roll greatness. This cd comes with an eleven-song New York concert in which Bratta blisters himself through every song on the set. They say he has nothing to do with music anymore, and this live set will show you how sad and how much of a loss that is. Another highlight here is how much the crow gets involved. I’m telling you: at one point in time, these guys were all over the top of the ladder. Bratta does by-the-way fill riffs that most guys never get to in a career of playing. Mike Tramp’s voice was one-of-a-kind memorable, more for being unique than amazing. But, in a good way, no one else has ever had a voice like his. It’s tough and gritty and ultra sexy (so the girls I know say) all at the same time. It was nice to see a forgotten, hardrock great, “The Lady of the Valley” on the live set. Rhino had to make some decisions here, and they went for the biggest hits. And no band ever had so many hits in so short a span of time. Do yourself a favor and rediscover them. You get an unbelievable 30 songs, and each one will have you jumping off your chair. The cd also includes very thorough liner notes chronicling White Lion’s entire career. This is a necessary addition to any rock or metal collection.

The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus

Monday, March 8th, 2010

The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus Conceived in late-’60s London, this literal three-ring would-be “television spectacular” featuring the Stones and a select cadre of friends and associates became (along with the Beach Boys’ Smile album and Bob Dylan’s Albert Hall concert) one of the era’s greatest unreleased projects. When it finally surfaced in the late ’90s, those overinflated expectations all but guaranteed it a tepid response. Legend has it that the Stones originally nixed it because they felt overshadowed by the Who, but it’s likely the shelving had more to do with the band’s then-unsettled state of affairs. The Stones’ raw, powerful set here both bridges the first Stones era with what was essentially the swan song of band’s ill-fated cofounder Brian Jones, who would be fired for ongoing substance-abuse problems. (That really took some doing in a band that also featured Keith Richards!) Also notable is the one-time-only teaming of John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Richards, and Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell (as “The Dirty Mac”) for a long, loud, and lugubrious workout of Lennon’s “White Album” standout “Yer Blues.” –Jerry McCulley

New York Rock & Roll Ensemble New York Rock & Roll Ensemble Customer Review: I’m Not Hearing Any “Speed Slips”
After waiting for decades, I was eager to purchase The New York Rock and Roll Ensemble’s debut album on CD. I had the original vinyl release back in the 1960’s and it was a magical album, not to mention one of my favorites.

Symphonic Rock Symphonic Rock Customer Review: symphonic rock
amazing versions of [ stairway to heaven ] and [ bat out of hell ] and [ nights in white satin ] overall i am very pleased with this purchase.
Customer Review: Great Sound
Ok, this album is not for everyone, it is only for those who truly appreciate music and know how to reconize truly good sounding music. It isn’t exactly what I would cruise down the road with the windows down and turned up loud - but it is superb for relaxing at home, chilling, working and not wanting some loud screaming of lyrics or talking in general to interrupt your workflow (if you are like me and don’t like dead silence when working, this is PERFECT!) As a matter-in-fact I have it playing right now as I type this…..give it a shot, but only if you are a true music lover!

Amethyst Rock Star

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Amethyst Rock Star Amethyst Rock Star Performed by a raucous sextet made up of beats, bass, guitar, cello, viola, and griot, Saul Williams hip-hop sounds like modern chamber music. It’s music informed as much by Hendrix’s star-strangled striations and Miles Davis’s alchemical electric period as it is the krunk-krunk of contemporary hip-hop. On Amethyst Rock Star Williams exorcises urban music of its self-destructive excess, channeling its rowdy energy into a ritualized raising of consciousness. The single “Penny for a Thought” breaks into jacked-up breakbeats as Williams calls out those who sell their souls into artistic slavery for the same chump change paid to their chained ancestors. He makes like a soothsayer on “Robeson,” reeling off a call for the heroic figures of the past to make their presence known in the future. Williams’s singing voice is as robust as his words, soaring like a veteran rock croaker; on “Fearless” he attempts to dissolve the influence of an unnameable “she” on his psyche by spontaneously bursting into song. “Coded Language,” a linguistic mantra first recorded for the DJ Krust album of the same name, makes a return appearance, sounding not a bit out of place with its warp-speed breaks and nitroglycerin orchestration. Saul breaks out on the epic closer, “Wine,” a torch-burning call for collective empowerment that comes off like Purple Rain for the no-age generation. –Chris Campion
Customer Review: Looking for Something Different
This man truly has a gift when it comes to word usage. Simply put, I love this CD. It comes off very different(I think thats why I like it so much). Something like a combination of Slam Poetry, Hip Hop, and Rock. If your growing tired of mainstream music and looking for something new, refreshing, and different… look no further.
Customer Review: Not a poetry album
This album, despite a lot of people talking about it as a poetry album, is most certainly not a poetry album. It’s a hiphop album. Saul himself talks about “Rocking the party” in “1987″, a track that leaps from chamber music beginning to electric guitar rock beats with big hihat and cymbal drumming throughout.

Hilary Duff - The Concert - The Girl Can Rock

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Hilary Duff - The Concert - The Girl Can Rock Hilary Duff - The Concert - The Girl Can Rock Disney Channel starlet-turned-movie actress Hilary Duff proves a legitimate contender in her side career as a singer on Hilary Duff: The Concert–The Girl Can Rock. Backed by an ace band of hired guns and immersed in edgy pop arrangements more interesting than her studio recordings, Duff sounds like a worthy centerpiece in The Girl Can Rock’s smart orchestration. The title tune kicks things off with an attention-getting backbeat and big (but not bombastic) rock & roll sound, while “Little Voice” comes pretty darn close to approximating the old, critically lauded, power pop sound of the late ’70s. “Anywhere but Here” could easily pass as a tune from the Pretenders’ songbook, and Duff makes the most out of its emotional counterpoints and minor chord changes. Even at the show’s dippiest (”Love Just Is”), musical settings are always tasteful and evocative. Special features include Duff’s so-so video for “Come Clean,” and a better one for “So Yesterday (Live).” –Tom Keogh

Customer Review: Not that good
I was so excited when I saw this sitting on the shelf at the store. So I bought it and was very disappointed. During this point in her career, Hilary lip synced her songs. This was probably a good thing because this DVD integrates two separate concerts into one which means all of a sudden she’s wearing one outfit and the next thing you know, she’s in a completely different outfit. Had this show been sung live, that would have been difficult to do. It is kind of fun to watch, but I may as well listen to her CD.

Why Do They Rock So Hard?

Why Do They Rock So Hard? Why Do They Rock So Hard? Customer Review: Good and catchy ska
First off, Reel Big Fish is a punk ska band. Ska music in general has guitar structure that is usually quick, clean and palm muted for a quick cut of sound. Ska also features trumpets, trombones or other brass instrumentation. That being said reel big fish is a very catchy and fast paced band that features very catchy pop punk songs with ska influences throughout.
