Blues Masters, Vol. 8: Mississippi Delta Blues

Blues Masters, Vol. 8: Mississippi Delta Blues Blues Masters, Vol. 8: Mississippi Delta Blues Customer Review: ****1/2 - one of the best in the series
Not five straight stars, though…partly because the authentic Mississippi Delta stuff is interspersed with much more urban sounds from B.B. King and Albert King. And (very) electric Chicago-sides by Howlin’ Wolf, Elmore James, and Robert Nighthawk do much to blur the distinctiveness of this package.

Customer Review: perfect score
my review is number 23, and so far there has been nothing except 5 star reviews. that’s because 5 is the highest score that can be given. virtuoso is a title that is tough to live up to, but i think the title of vituoso came searching for ronnie to give itself to him. san-ho-zay opens it up, and my lord, it will make you listen in disbelief. as much as you think there might be, there is only one guitarist on this cd, and he is blues royalty, the earl of blues. have a friend or two rate it with you so you can give it more than two thumbs up.

Lady Sings the Blues Lady Sings the Blues Customer Review: Long overdue reissue of original 1956 album
I was overjoyed to see this on Amazon. I first got the album on vinyl back around 1981. It was a Japanese import on so-called virgin vinyl, the best of the lot back then. Then I waited and waited and waited for it to come out on CD. I had almost thought I was waiting in vain. My mother gave me a CD called Lady Sings The Blues back in the 90s, which had the same cover, but turned out to be vol. 4 in the Billie Holiday Story. A major disappointment, since the original album is so wonderful.

Blowin’ the Blues Away

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Blowin the Blues Away Blowin’ the Blues Away Recorded in 1959, this is an early chronicle of one of the finest bands of the hard-bop genre, pianist Silver’s classic quintet with trumpeter Blue Mitchell, tenor saxophonist Junior Cook, bassist Gene Taylor, and drummer Louis Hayes. The group already epitomized Silver’s own virtues of precision and hard swing, with each soloist committed to direct and concise statements, at all times both emotionally and musically focused. There’s effective contrast, too, between Mitchell’s subtle turn of phrase and Cook’s raw intensity, each filling in Silver’s vision of a music that combined the complexity of bop and the immediacy of blues and gospel. This session contains the original recordings of two Silver standards, the serene “Peace” and the joyously funky “Sister Sadie,” but the collective impact of the band is just as enduring. The group was so musically close-knit that when Silver disbanded five years later, the rest continued as the Blue Mitchell Quintet, with a young Chick Corea on piano. –Stuart Broomer
Customer Review: The multifarious talents of Silver on display
What makes this CD so compelling to own, and so satisfying once you own it, is that you get to experience one of the great jazz musicians of all time exercising his considerable talent, skill, and judgment, in a variety of different musical capacities, all in one place. As a pianist, Silver was at the forefront for many years, as evidenced by his playing with so many other jazz talents, such as Stan Getz, Art Blakey, Clifford Brown, Kenny Dorham and Miles Davis. All but one of the songs on this CD were written by Silver, so this CD displays the depth and musicality of Silver as a composer, a skill that is not always found in other jazz musicians. Indeed, if this collection contained Horace’s signature piece, Song for My Father, this would be one of the most complete jazz composer works there is. (You can pick up Song for My Father with either Song for My Father or as part of a compilation, such as The Best Blue Note Album in the World Ever.) Finally, as a band leader and band assembler, you get a quintet on some songs and a trio on others, a unique sort of sound that allows this CD to settle down and pick up when it needs to. Most of the tracks are upbeat, fast moving, quick changing struts of rhythm and melody, like the title track and Break City, but there’s also a dose of “off-color” blues in The Baghdad Blues, as well as a few well-spaced ballads. The Rudy Van Gelder remaster is reliable as always, although I think I heard a “pop” or two - nothing too distracting. In short, this CD shows the many ways Silver shines (sorry) in all musical dimensions and manners, and it will spend very little time on the shelf and lots of time in the CD player of any jazz fan who buys it.

Blue Moon Blue Moon Customer Review: Fabulous
This is currently my favorite CD! Love Just a Kiss, Tear One and If That’s What you Want - great dance tunes!! If you like to Rhumba, Two Step and Cha Cha, you’ve got to have this CD.
Customer Review: Steve Holy is awesome!
The hits Blue Moon and Good Morning Beautiful are two very emotional songs that make the cd worth buying. Plus, there is the Just a Kiss, Elvis-style hit for a feel-good song. Steve’s voice is pure and his range is soothing. I met him this summer and he invited us to a private jam session and chat after the concert. He is the most genuine nice guy and fame will not go to his head. We all love Steve Holy in my family. PS His second cd, Brand New Girlfriend is a must buy!!!

Blue Screen Life

Blue Screen Life Blue Screen Life Customer Review: Really good sutff, if not melancholic
I really like this album, and out of the 3 albums I have heard(this, Summer in Abbadon and Autumn of the Seraphs) this actually comes in last. But thats NOT saying anything bad. The complexties of their rhythms and melody are intact throughout, and this one is indeed very infectious. But I must say, they definitely get better after this one. I think “Summer” and “Autumn” are about on par with each other… That being said, I believe the only quibble lies in the fact that after Concrete Seconds it gets so melancholic that by the time XIY comes, its a true reilief, befoe it gets down in the depths again, right before the wonderful and majestic and arguably the top 3 of songs they put out, closer “Tres”. This closes this outting so well, its so hypnotic that you just cant help but want to play it again. That melody will stay with you for some time.
Customer Review: awsome
This is the best album. There is only 1 song that I don’t really like, and my baby likes it also. While driving in the car if he gets fussy I turn it up and he calms down.

Richard Clayderman Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Richard Clayderman Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Customer Review: Keep It On Replay
This CD is absolutely beautiful - the sound is crisp and clear and the playing magnificent. I listen to it over and over to give me inspiration and “get up and go” throughout my day.
Customer Review: Richard Clayderman the greatest pianist
This CD is excepts from all the great concerto’s Just the beautful,or the melodic music out of all the famous concerto’s. Accompanied by the London Philharmonic Orchestra it just beautiful. I wonder if Clayderman is capable of making a bad CD?
