The Copland Collection: Orchestral Works, 1948-1971 The Copland Collection: Orchestral Works, 1948-1971 Customer Review: Copland’s conduction of GREAT CITY is better than Slatkin’s
SKYLINE is a fun track that’s based on the premise of Big City Overload. And naturally it’s immediately followed by the low-key introspective NIGHT THOUGHTS.

Experience the magic he creates on stage. See the madness he conducts in the booth and on the dance floor,
Customer Review: DJ Craze is dope, but this DVD isn’t
DJ Craze is awesome. everyone knows this. he’s the 3x DMC world champion, and then retired from it after winning his 3rd. The music for this DVD is really good, with a nice blend of scratching and hip hop, then drum ‘n’ bass. The d’n'b could have been a bit harder, he played a lot of popular songs. Will appeal both to jungle and non-jungle fans. The video accompanying the music is pretty bad. i like videos with cool visuals that i can either play with the music, or with my own cds, but this isnt one of em. there is very little of Craze scratching, and some of it isnt even with the music, or has effects with it/on top of it, which is wack because you want to see his skills. the visuals are pretty standard and boring. as for extras, you do get to see craze in a studio doing his 6 minute DMC routine, which is cool, even if some of the camera angles [are bad]. there is also a quick tutorial with this … blonde chick who interviews him. mildly interesting. thats about it. in the end, this is basically a glorified cd. great music, bad video. only for the big craze fans (me).

Ed Sullivan Rock & Roll Revolution

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Ed Sullivan Rock & Roll Revolution Ed Sullivan Rock & Roll Revolution In the 60’s, there was a new wave of music coming from England, an invasion unlike anything else America had ever experience. Then, in February, 1964, The Beatles laned on Ed Sullivan stage and our world change forever.
Customer Review: Rock ‘N’ Roll Forever
This is an excellent dvd of Rock and Roll Greats of the 50’s and 60’s that appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. The stars vary from the Great Jackie Wilson singing his signature “Lonely Teardrops” to The Beatles first American TV Appearance. There’s also appearances by James Brown,Elvis,The Jackson 5,The Temptations & Supremes, Ray Charles,Janis Joplin and the Doors. This dvd has something for everyone.
Customer Review: Good performances, but not enough
I loved the performances on the DVD: the Doors, Bill Haley, and early Elvis, Ray Charles, James Brown, and Janis Joplin, but I was a little disappointed that it only included one Motown performance: Diana Ross and the Supremes and the Temptations. The Tempts were the best part of this video especially knowing the background to their appearance. No Marvin Gaye? No Four Tops? Well, David Ruffin sings the “(I Know) I’m Losing You” duet with Diana, but Diana gets most of the lead. The song sounded pretty watered down for her. Ruffin was the best part of the duet—such a dynamic performer! I was disappointed in the Mamas and the Papas’ performance (very very disappointed). There definitely should have been more performances.

The Kings of Jazz

The Kings of Jazz The Kings of Jazz Customer Review: A tour through jazz
The Kings of Jazz is a study in jazz musicology. Jazzanova picks out some of their favorite jazz-infused contemporary material for one disc and Gilles Peterson time travels from the `50s to the `80s chronicling some of his classic jazz favorites for the other. Jazzanova essentially shows us where jazz is while Gilles shows us a bit about where it’s come from.

Perhaps surprisingly for the guy who recently did the Digs America compilation, Gilles doesn’t make any incredibly obscure choices. His disc consists of mostly familiar names doing mostly familiar material.

Classical Music for People Who Hate Classical Music

Classical Music for People Who Hate Classical Music Classical Music for People Who Hate Classical Music Customer Review: This box selection is enjoyable
Cheers to those with drive to attain “real” music student status. However, I just want to listen to music passages I have found enjoyable over the years. There is no pretense of this selection being a student workbook of classical music for the serious scholar - it is just an enjoyable alternative to that shared by those offensively loud vehicles near me at the stoplight.
Customer Review: Classic haters Love it
I admit I am not a huge fan of Classical music, but I have throughly enjoyed this CD. I recognize the songs, even though I have no idea of most of their titles.

14 Fathoms Deep: A Hip Hop Compilation

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

14 Fathoms Deep: A Hip Hop Compilation 14 Fathoms Deep: A Hip Hop Compilation While it gets props for being the first Seattle-area hip-hop compilation to feature the nascent scene of the late 1990s, 14 Fathoms Deep is the aural equivalent of baby steps–especially when compared to later albums (Walkman Rotation being the best of the lot). That said, there are standouts here: Ghetto Children’s “Court in Session” is fun (the opening line, “We’re going to get medieval on your but-tocks,” is laugh-out-loud funny), lyrically smooth, and features an irresistibly catchy bass-plucking hook; Source of Labor distinguish themselves as truly original–and interesting–MCs on “Cornbread”; Mad Fanatic and RagChyld deliver a smooth rap over Mr. Supreme’s production on “Official Members”; and Kylin, a female trio removed from the East Coast need to prove that women can be as hard as men, unveil a creative delivery on “Can” that points the way to a more artistic future for hip-hop. Negus 1’s backing track and the trio’s strong vocals make the track an instant classic. –Randy Silver
Customer Review: Classic Seattle Hip-Hop
This LP wasn’t as good as “Do The Math” but nonetheless dope. This comp helped widen the scope beyond Vitamin D’s clique and give the listener a better sample of the Seattle Hip-Hop sceene. (both good and bad)
