Country Music Hall of Fame This collection offers a fine introduction to the most agreeable of country crooners, sampling a variety of styles. Red Foley puts his conversational baritone to gospel favorites, catchy novelties (including one here with Ernest Tubb), souped-up boogies, and of course, the sentimental classic “Old Shep,” a boy-and-his-dog tale that manages to be both mawkish and moving at the same time. –Marc Greilsamer
Customer Review: Please Sir! More
That famous line from the musical Oliver fits this CD to a T. Not that there’s anything wrong with it. Here you have 14 of his Top 40 Country hits, three of which - Chattanoogie Shoe Shine Boy, Sugarfoot Rag, and Alabama Jubilee - crossed over into, and did very well on, the pop charts in 1950/51. Along for the ride are lesser hits like When God Dips His Love In My Heart and Deep Blues, which was overshadowed only by the fabulous A-side Midnight in 1952.

On The Rocks A Jazzy, soulful, funky, world beat driven, chilled out adventure into smooth-new contemporary jazz. Matt’s 4th record brings forth urban moods such as “Hangin at Humphreys,” slammin’ grooves such as “Space Coastin’”, old school thangs such as “Chuck’s Groove.” There’s even a blues track “Sierra Sunset”, South African number “Sanibel”, and a cover “I’m on Fire,” the Bruce Springsteen hit. And the mysterious “Bratislava Bop” paints the portrait of European Chill. The record truly has something for everyone. Aboard for the ride is Andre Berry (Mindi Abair), Chris Kent (Larry Carlton), Carl Burnett (Branford Marsalis), and many other greats.

Little Girl Blue Customer Review: One of the Clearest voices in jazz
Dr. Nina Symone has one of the clearest voices in Jazz. Couple that with her skills as a pianist and you have a treat for the ears. I highly reccomend this CD.
Customer Review: “Undisbuted Essential Nina Simone Disc” –Believe the Hype
I first heard this album in the late 1950’s. My brother-in-law loaned it to me and I liked it so much he let me have it. I was struck by the title song, Little Girl Blue, the innovation on the piano is astounding, the way she intertwines Good King Winceslas with the main melody, but then there’s her extraordinary voice. Everyone I played it for couldn’t believe it. I took it to college, expecting to hear more and more about her, but never did. I forgot about it until one day I was listening to a Thistle and Shamrock on Public Radio showcase a classic pipe player who mentioned that this song by Nina Simone that she heard on one of her parents albums had a great influence on her. I started hunting for it again, I bought a half dozen of her CDs, but never found the clean versions of the songs on this disc. Evidently it made it to the surface again following her death. This collection really is definitive. There’s a flow to this album. It’s a classic, like Charlie Byrd and Stan Getz on Jazz Samba.

Customer Review: Just what I was looking for…
I like this Cd very much. I had been looking for a mix of the older country hits so when I saw this I had to have it. I was not disappointed. I especially wanted the song The Battle of New Orleans which this Cd had, so I am well pleased.
