Customer Review: Easily her best
This was her 1st album [that i know of] and easily the the best. The intertwining of sacred and classical melodies is sublime. Example, Debussy’s “The Girl with the Flaxen Hair” is seamlessly segued with “Jesus Paid it All” with much attention to detail and quality, detracting from neither piece and having overall a sacred transporting effect on the hearer. It’s really good stuff!

Joe Pass: The Blues Side Of Jazz Joe Pass: The Blues Side Of Jazz This follow-up to Joe’s best-selling Solo Jazz Guitar explores the blues elements of jazz guitar. Joe covers bebop blues, new chord substitutions, pedal tones, jazz/blues improvisationand much more. As usual, Joe brings wit and style to his invaluable g
Customer Review: “Great Resource!”
This DVD will give some insight to guitarists about how Joe plays his “chord grips” as he calls them and how he solos over any particular chord or progression.A useful companion DVD would be the “Solo Jazz” DVD by Joe.With careful study, both DVDs will help to give a basic explanation of Joe’s style and how he plays. After watching these DVDs,listen to Joe’s Cds with Ella Fitzgerald and Zoot Sims and you’ll get another lesson on how to comp for a soloist.Highly recommended.
Customer Review: The next step up . . .
I rented this at NetFlix and liked it so much I went to Amazon and bought it.
If you are an intermediate level guitar player and you are starting to get bored with the same old blues changes, this dvd is for you. Joe shows you those rich sounding jazz/blues chords that will make your music more interesting, for you, and anyone playing with you. The good news is, they sound more complicated to play than they are. It is also interlaced with Joe’s dry, tongue in cheek, humor.

Its Only Rock n Roll It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll Customer Review: Let’s Be Honest
I am the Stones Authority. This is only three stars, barely. It is not a great album. It’s a great cover, but not a great album. There are a couple of songs that are some of my favorites, but only a couple. “Luxury” is my personal favorite from this album. “Time Waits For No One” is not bad either, but doesn’t realize its potential in this production. And that actually is the problem with the whole album, apart from the title song from the album “It’s Only Rock And Roll”, the songs on this album in few instances realize their full potential. They are not bad songs, but they are just not quite there. “Dance Little Sister” does not do it for me - sorry my fellow Stones purists. “If You Can’t Rock Me” is cool, but where would this song figure on a another Stones album? I do not think it would, and it is only notable here on this album because this collection is not strong. For an album titled It’s Only Rock and Roll - there is precious little of it to be found here.
    Customer Review: A Stones Album
Honestly, I don’t see why this album is so disagreed upon whether it is a good one or a bad one. To me, all the tracks on this album are superbly done. It’s like the Stones were on a full winning streak with each song.

Progressions: 100 Years of Jazz Guitar

    Saturday, May 30th, 2009

Progressions: 100 Years of Jazz Guitar Progressions: 100 Years of Jazz Guitar Seventy-eight guitar classics are put together in 100 YEARS OF JAZZ GUITAR, a remarkable 4-CD anthology that yields the absolutely definitive jazz guitar collection ever assembled. The set spans the years 1906 to 2001, from the ragtime banjo of Vess Ossman (originally recorded on an Edison cylinder) to the diaphonous chords of Bill Frisell. In between, virtually every major figure of the jazz guitar weighs in, from Eddie Lang, Django Reinhardt, and Charlie Christian to Les Paul, Tal Farlow, and Wes Montgomery, and right up to Jim Hall, Grant Green, George Benson, Pat Martino, John McLaughlin, Pat Metheny, and John Scofield as well as Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, and the great Jimi Hendrix.

In addition, the box also contains a book filled with photographs of each of the principles heard herein, an overview essay by guitar scholar Charles Alexander, old guitar ads, photos of classic guitar models and amps, solo transcriptions and technical analysis, testimonials from guitar legends, and precise discographical data. Clearly, 100 YEARS OF JAZZ GUITAR is the set to get if one is even remotely interested in the history and development of guitar over the course of the past century.
Customer Review: An incredible overview of Jazz guitar!
As my title says, I consider this box set an overview…all in good reason, though. As a guitarist myself that has never really known where to begin when dealing with Jazz guitar, this set which was actually a gift was the absolute perfect place to start. It is the greatest open-door into the Jazz guitar world. I certainly wouldn’t advise anyone to drop-anchor here though. It would be doing the people who put this box-set together a disservice. Branching out using this box-set as a springboard is the best thing you can do when building a Jazz guitar collection. I highly recommend it!
    Customer Review: Great overview
I’ve had this box set for more than a year now and really enjoy it. It has been a good way to explore many of the jazz guitar masters. I just picked up three CDs from artisits I disovered through this set; Al di Meola, Mike Stern and John McLaughlin. Id covers everything from early innovators through fusion masters.

The Blues and the Abstract Truth

The Blues and the Abstract Truth The Blues and the Abstract Truth Customer Review: A Very Much Under rated Artist and Album
Known more for his arranging and composing than his playing, Oliver Nelson demonstrates here that he is equally facile in both arenas.

The title of the album is accurate; this is the abstract blues. That is to say, it is the blues reduced to its pure musical essence. The now famous tune: “Stolen Moments,” which is often the sound track for various movies and advertisements, has become famous in its own right, but is only a scratching of the surface of Nelson’s immense talents.
